DESCRIPTION:The holiday season is upon us once again and the Hegeler Carus Foundation invites you to travel back to 1898 for their annual holiday celebration. Each year\, the Foundation\, with the generous help of community members\, recreates a holiday party the Hegeler and Carus families might have personally hosted in their Victorian home.\n \nThis interactive party features Mr. Hegeler (played by community member Steve Seaborn) greeting each guest as they mingle with other members of the Hegeler and Carus families\, also played by community members.\n \nShows will be Friday and Saturday\, Dec. 14 and 15 at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday Dec. 16 at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $20 each and reservations are required. The show will run for approximately an hour\, with light refreshments served during the party.  Guests are encouraged\, but not required\, to dress in period costume.  For more information\, and to reserve your place\, please call Tricia at 815.993.4476\n \nThe Hegeler Carus Foundation is a non-profit\, 501c3 organization. DESCRIPTION:The Mendota Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting “A Mendota Christmas” on Saturday\, December 15th.   It is a holiday celebration inviting everyone to come out and enjoy an afternoon of holiday cheer and begin their Christmas shopping.  Mendota shops will be decorated and ready for Christmas\, featuring gifts for everyone on your list.\nKiwanis Club will be having a Pecan Sale at Eureka Savings Bank\nM.A.S.S. will be selling baked goods at First State Bank\nMat Masters will be selling baked goods at Financial Plus Credit Union\nThese groups are part of Mrs. Santa’s Cookie Sales and will be selling their holiday cookies\, candies\, breads\, and pecans in the bank lobbies until noon.  \nJoining us this year is Balloon Artist Lica Lorraine.  She will be strolling downtown from 11:00 am – 3:00 pm showing off her talents.\nHorse Drawn Carriage Rides\, departing from the Post Office corner at Washington (Rt. 34) and Indiana Ave.\, will be giving free rides around the downtown area from 11:00 pm to 2:00 pm.\nCookies will also be available by Mendota Bible Church located in front of the Post Office.\nFrom 11:00 am to 3:00 pm children of all ages are invited to “Touch a Truck” on Illinois Avenue. Children can come and explore vehicles from police cars\, firetrucks\, and tractors.\nThere will be crafts for kids to make and take on Illinois Avenue 11:00 am – 3:00 pm.\nOf course the “man in red” – Santa and of course Mrs. Clause – will be coming to town and will be listening to children’s wishes in his house in the First State Bank Parking Lot from 11:00 pm to 3:00 pm. The Mendota Optimist Club will also be on hand in the parking lot\, serving hotdogs and hot chocolate.\nThrough a special project by Jennifer Bast (Foulk)\, a former Mendotan\, and the Graves-Hume Public Library\, children that visit Santa will be receiving an Usborne Book following their visit. This will take place at the Graves-Hume Library booth in the First State Bank parking lot.\nParents are encouraged to bring a camera and take holiday photos of the children at the various events.\nAdmission to all events is free\, but the Chamber will be collecting free will donations to benefit the Mendota Operation Elf Action program which provides Christmas gifts to children ages 1 -13\, whose families need assistance this Holiday Season.\nChamber Ambassadors will be on hand in the Information Booth selling 50/50 tickets\, and Ornaments\, Mendota Gift Certificates will also be available.  The booth will be located on Illinois Ave.\nOSF HealthCare Saint Paul Auxiliary Gift Shop will be open from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm to help you with holiday gift ideas for friends and family.\nShoppers are reminded that Mendota’s Shop Local Promotion kicked off Saturday\, November 17th and will continue through December 31st at participating businesses.\nDuring this time shoppers will receive a sticker for every $10 they spend in a participating merchant’s business. Customers can place the stickers on cards\, obtained at the participating business or at the Chamber office. When your cards are full\, and contain at least 3 participating businesses\, you can turn them into the Chamber office for a chance to win valuable prizes.\nMendota Shop Local Businesses will be giving away 4 gift baskets\, the Grand Prize Basket worth over $1\,000 in gift cards and merchandise and 3 other baskets worth over $300 each. In addition $20 Mendota Gift Certificates will also be awarded to 10 additional drawing winners.\nShoppers can turn in as many cards as they wish by the deadline\, January 3\, 2019 at 4:00 pm. The drawing for these great gift baskets will take place on January 4\, 2019.\nOn Saturday December 15th in conjunction with  “A Mendota Christmas.”   Shoppers will receive “double stickers” for every $10 they spend on that special day.

DESCRIPTION:LaSalle-Peru Township High School has rescheduled the Field of Dreams public forum to discuss needed field repairs in historic Howard Fellows Stadium. It will be now be at 6 p.m. on Tuesday\, Feb. 12 in Matthiessen Memorial Auditorium.\nDuring the meeting\, members of the LPHS administration will share information on three options to repair the stadium’s field turf. The proposed work would be the first major repair project to the stadium turf since the mid-1990s. LPHS administrators will be joined by relevant members of the LPHS faculty\, staff and coaches\, as well as LPHS’s head athletic trainer and industry professionals with experience in natural and artificial field turf projects.\n
