SUMMARY:Lee County Sheriff Issues Appeal to Citizens in Fight Against Crime
DESCRIPTION:  Responding to the increasing number of people wanting to assist law enforcement officials and build a stronger partnership in the fight against crime\, Sheriff John Simonton today announced that Lee County citizens are being invited to become Associate Members of the Illinois Sheriffs’ Association.\n Membership appeals go out in the mail shortly. Individuals choosing to join the voluntary program can do so for as little as $25\, while businesses can show their support for a $50 contribution.  The funding provides critically important technical resources\, training\, and legislative support on key criminal justice issues.\nContributions are tax-deductible\, and unlike other organizations in our state\, the Membership Program does not solicit membership by telephone.\n“With government funding becoming increasingly difficult to secure\, the membership drive has taken on greater importance than ever before\,” said Sheriff Simonton.  “The funding is vital to helping us carry out our mission of making our communities safer places to live\, work and play.”\nThe Program is committed to its “No Telemarketing” policy and only sends invitations to citizens to become members by mail.  Individuals that do not receive a membership appeal and would like more information can do so by contacting the Illinois Sheriffs’ Association; 401 E Washington Suite 1000; Springfield\, Illinois 62701 Phone: 217-753-2372.  Information is also available online\, www.ilsheriff.org.

SUMMARY:Oregon Woman's Club 68th Annual Antique Show
DESCRIPTION:The Oregon Woman’s Club wants to announce their 68th annual antique show\, one of the premier antiques shows in Northern Illinois. The Oregon Woman’s Club\, a member of the General Federation of Woman’s Clubs\, sponsors this show as a major fund raising event and uses the proceeds to help fund various community projects and charities.\n\nAs in past years\, the show will be held at the Blackhawk Center Sports Arena\, located on the Oregon Public School campus. The facility offers ample parking\, handicap accessibility and a huge area for our 52 Midwest antique dealers from Illinois\, Wisconsin\, Michigan\, Indiana and Iowa to display their merchandise for sale. Quality antiques from the early 1800’s through mid-century 1950’s\, including all areas of collecting – furniture\, glass\, china\, pottery\, toys\, primitives\, textiles\, jewelry\, dolls\, silver\, decorator items and more. There will be items for all collecting tastes and budgets\, for both the new and advanced collector. We like to think of it as “Comfort Food for the Eyes”.\n\nThe food concession will be provided by the Chana United Methodist Ladies. The menu will be a selection of sandwiches\, chips\, desserts and beverages\, so bring your appetite and enjoy lunch. Mary Lou’s Crystal Repair from Joliet\, IL\, will be on hand both days to repair your damaged heirlooms “while you wait”. On Sunday\, from 10am-3pm\, Hack’s Auction & Realty Services\, Pecatonica\, IL\, will offer verbal appraisals of your small treasures for $5 per item. Please supply photos of large items. If a written appraisal is needed\, discuss the details with the appraisers. \nThis will be the second year for the Woman’s Club to invite a local area not-for-profit to have a representative at the show.  This will give the agency or organization an opportunity to present their mission\, activities\, goals and needs to the visiting public. This year we are pleased to help showcase the Village of Progress.\n\nShow times are Saturday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Sunday 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Entry to the show is $6 per person\, which is good for both days. Door prizes will be awarded throughout both days of the show.\nLocation is the Blackhawk Center\, 1101 West Jefferson Street\, Oregon\, IL 61061. \nMark your calendar for March 24th and 25th\, 2018\, to make plans to come enjoy the day or weekend. For additional information visit www.oregonil.com or www.cityoforegon.org or call 815-732-2219.\n
