SUMMARY:IVCC Women's History Month
DESCRIPTION:Illinois Valley Community College’s SAGE (Students Advocating for Gender Equality)\, Student Government Association and Diversity Team are sponsoring Brown Bag Lunch events for Women’s History Month.\nA Reader’s Theatre presentation of “The Eve O’Lution of Women\, or Eve Through the Looking Glass” will be held from noon to 12:45 p.m. Monday\, March 26 in Room CTC124.\nDonna Stone and the Drama Mamas will give a dramatic reading that follows the development of women from historic times of Eve in the Bible through the embattled women of the Greek “Lysistrata\,” Chaucer’s Wife of Bath from “The Canterbury Tales\,” and Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew” and into modern times with women from Sheridan’s “The Rivals” and George Bernard Shaw’s “Man and Superman\,” finally ending with the woman of the future.\nThis satirical look at women’s history packs tongue-in-cheek humor into a 30-minute production. SUMMARY:American Red Cross Blood Drive in Memory of Jean Greening
DESCRIPTION:An American Red Cross blood drive will be held in memory of Jean Greening Tuesday\, May 1\, from noon to 5:30 p.m. at the Illinois Valley Chapter Blood Donation Center\, 1530 4th St.\, in Peru. With a goal to collect 60 donations at this year’s drive\, her family anticipates reaching the 400th donation milestone made in her name.\nGreening was a Red Cross employee in the Peru area for more than 23 years. She retired in 2002 and continued to support the organization by volunteering at blood drives. Greening passed away in 2010 and family and friends remember her birthday with an annual blood drive.\nEvery two seconds\, someone in the U.S. needs blood. Volunteers of all blood types are needed to help accident and burn victims\, patients undergoing organ transplants\, those receiving cancer treatments and others who rely on blood products.\nThose with types O\, A negative and B negative blood are encouraged to make a Power Red donation at this blood drive. Power Red donors give a concentrated dose of red blood cells during a single donation\, allowing them to maximize their impact. During this type of donation\, red blood cells are separated from other blood components\, and the plasma and platelets are safely and comfortably returned to the donor.\n“Hosting this blood drive in her name is a wonderful way to remember Jean and help other patients that need blood\,” said Tammy Hibser\, account manager for the Red Cross Heart of America Blood Services Region.
