SUMMARY:LaSalle County Health Department's Flu Clinics
DESCRIPTION:The LaSalle County Health Department is urging everyone 6 months and older to get vaccinated against seasonal influenza (flu).  Seasonal Influenza Vaccine and Influenza HD (High Dose) Vaccine for persons 65 and older will be available. All LaSalle County Health Department influenza vaccines are preservative free. The fee for the seasonal flu shot will be $25. The fee for influenza HD will be $50. Insurance billing will be provided for Medicare part B and Medicaid eligible clients and also for most health insurance companies. You must have your insurance card with you.  No Doctors order is required.  Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.\n \n      The clinic schedule will be as follows:\n         November 15th   from 1:00 – 5:00       LaSalle County Health Department\n \nThe flu vaccine’s effectiveness varies from year to year.  But for those who still get the flu\, the symptoms are milder than in those who have not been immunized.  Influenza HD will be given to persons 65 and older.  Human immune defenses become weaker with age.  Aging decreases the body’s ability to have a good immune response.  A higher dose of protection in the vaccine is added to give older persons a better immune response. This additional protection is intended to create a stronger immune response which will make the vaccine more effective in the elderly.\nTo lessen your chances of developing the flu\, adults and children need to practice good hygiene measures.  Teach the importance of covering your mouth when coughing or sneezing\, and educate children about hand to mucous membrane transmission.  One of the best ways to protect yourself and your children is through frequent and thorough hand washing.  People who are exhibiting “flu-like” symptoms should stay home from work\, out of childcare and school to minimize transmission.\nThis is also a good time for certain individuals to get a pneumonia vaccination.   People who should get a pneumonia shot include: \n\npersons aged 65 and older\nAdults and children with chronic illnesses such as heart\, lung\, kidney\, or liver disease\nDiabetics\nAll persons with a weakened immune system caused by conditions such as HIV\, cancer\, organ transplant\, immunosuppressive medicine\, splenectomy\, or any other chronic condition.\n\nFor those under 65 with a chronic illness it is recommended that it be repeated once after five years. A pneumonia shot is usually necessary only once for those over the age of 65.\nThe pneumonia vaccine will be available at the Health Department flu clinics. For more information on influenza you can call 1-815-433-3366 or you may visit our website at www.lasallecounty.org/hd.  Or like us on Facebook/Twitter.

Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.\n \n      The clinic schedule will be as follows:\n         October 25th        from 1:00 – 5:00       LaSalle County Health Department\n         November 15th   from 1:00 – 5:00       LaSalle County Health Department\n \nThe flu vaccine’s effectiveness varies from year to year.

SUMMARY:Tickets on Sale for MHS Madrigal Dinner
DESCRIPTION:All persons of wit\, refinement and genteel manner are invited to a candle-lit Fifteenth Century Banquet hall\, draped with medieval banners and pine boughs accenting the scene\, English court jesters beckon the diners to join the festivities. The mood is one of enchantment\, magic and laughter\, a mystical lifting of care and woes\, and above all the cleansing purity of music from long ago….\n \nThe Mendota High School Music Department is proud to present the 46th Annual Madrigal Dinners. Once again this festive celebration is being presented in the MHS auditorium complete with full-course meal\, renaissance music\, court jesters and wench\, woodwind and brass choirs. The dinners will be held on Saturday\, Dec. 1 at 6:30 p.m. and Sunday\, Dec. 2 at 2:30 p.m.\n \nMadrigal singing came to England from Italy in the late 16th century and was used as an informal type of private entertainment at castles and country homes of English nobility. Often the lords and ladies performed the music themselves. Naturally\, during the twelve days of the Christmas season\, there was much entertaining and singing of madrigals.\n \nMadrigals are songs written for small groups in which several voice parts are skillfully combined so that each part is interesting and independent\, both melodically and rhythmically. In addition to performing standard repertoire from the Renaissance Era\, the singers will also present traditional and contemporary settings of well-known carols.\n \nMHS choir students auditioned for this ensemble in August. Since then\, they have spent numerous hours each week outside of the school day in rehearsals. The program includes 20 pieces of music that must be committed to memory. Many of these pieces are collegiate-level difficulty and are extremely demanding upon vocal technique and intellect.\n \nThis year’s madrigal singers include Rachel Brandner\, Becca Hadley\, Bonnie Hall\, Maya Martin\, Olivia Ross\, Faith Anderson\, Madison Pappas\, Jenna Stanford\, Alex Stremlau\, Katherine Wohrley\, Eulysses Preciado\, Emilio Raya\, Dylan Saylor\, Dekin Walter\, Noah DeLong\, Fabian Gomez\, Cole Pursell\, and Jacob Stohr.  Jesters are Angelique Baker and Allison Olczak\, along with Leilani Landeros as the Wench.\n \nDinners will include wassail cup\, roast pork loin\, mashed potatoes and gravy\, green bean casserole\, cranberry salad\, bread pudding\, dinner rolls and beverage. All tickets are $20 and may be purchased at Sports N Stuff in downtown Mendota. All seats are reserved. There is limited seating for each performance\, so hurry and get your tickets now!

SUMMARY:Karl's Krusaders GoFundMe
DESCRIPTION:On December 1st\, 7th grader\, Karl Soliman collapsed at a junior high basketball game. Many professionals tried to save him but unfortunately he did not survive. We have decided to raise money after reading this letter from his parents. We know the letter is long\, but it describes Karl better than we could. We would like to raise enough funds to complete this list. Could we accomplish this within 6 months? All funds will be turned over to Karl’s parents or the person of their choosing once they are ready.\nCLICK HERE TO GO TO THE GOFUNDME PAGE\nThank you so much for all the memories and support. They have touched me unbelievably and many tears have been shed. Karl was a wonderful child. No words explain how totally AWESOME he was in every way. He was so talented. He was a high honor roll student\, passionate about every sport he played (soccer\, baseball\, track and field – 100m\, 200m\, 4×100 and long jump\, golf\, and of course basketball). He loved doing 5k races and going to athletic training with me. He loved going to the Mendota public pool. He loved playing the trombone in the public school middle school band. He was his Dad’s best friend and we just started calling him our “little Shawn”. They loved fishing together. They loved hunting together. They loved doing all sports together. He always looked to Shawn for guidance. He was always at Shawn’s side. He loved Fortnite and connected with his many friends with his headset. He loved video games with his brother\, sisters and friends. He also loved hanging out with all his friends. He loved going to Lake Delavan\, Wisconsin throughout the year and go fishing\, tubing\, swimming\, sledding\, and ice skating. He loved going to water parks. He loved going to Chicago Fire games\, Chicago Cubs games\, Chicago Bulls games\, NBA games\, any other sports games. He was blessed to see some of his favorite basketball players in real life – Lebron James\, Kevin Durant\, Russel Westbrook\, Paul George\, Zach LeVine and Giannis Antetokounmpo. He also dreamed to see Isaiah Thomas and Kylie Irving along with many more.\nHe did everything with determination\, perseverance\, and passion. He gave everything 110% or more. He was a mentor to so many young children and younger siblings and a watched out for all of them.\nHe wanted to be a doctor just like his me and I knew he could since he was so kind\, smart\, determined\, and passionate.\nDuring my last 11 years in Mendota\, Illinois so many lives have touched him and our family. I have always dreamt of more youth sport opportunities in our small rural town.\nIn honor of Karl these are dreams we have shared over the years. I have always dreamt of a way to make it happen but there is no way I can do it on my own. Her are some wonderful ways to help the youth in our community which is what Karl would want:\n*Updating the local track and field they had all their meets at. (the local public school district owns it but with the Illinois budget it is not feasible to spruce it up)\n*New basketball hoops at Holy Cross School playground and local Mendota parks. (Most just have old rims)\n*Updating the local public pool which has no heat and only staffed by high school and college students during about 2 months during the summer.\n*Many of us have wished we had soccer fields with nets to just go play anytime.\n*Many of us wish we had an indoor basketball court kids can just go shoot hoops at anytime.\n*A school van for Holy Cross School so they can have consistent reliable transportation to band practice at the public school (right now the parents have to volunteer everyday to transport the kids back and forth).\nI’m sure I am missing something we have talked about over the years but right now with my heartbroken heart this is what comes to mind.\nPlease continue to pray for him and for our family. We will always need prayers\, since no day will ever be the same and we will miss Karl the rest of our lives.\nOur community also needs prayers and support in this tragic time. So many people knew Karl since he was the little red head point guard who was so quick and agile on the court dribbing and setting up plays. He was the one that pulled the team together. He was awesome at his 3 pointers and they all called them “Kobe’s”.\nI am so sorry this happened in such a public manner. I pray that all the children affected can move on and continue to love and play basketball and all other sports they are involved in.\nI also pray that they can remember Karl Soliman for AWESOME kid he was and not what happened that day.\nI can’t even express my thankfulness for such an incredible community of people. Thank you so much.\nCLICK HERE TO GO TO THE GOFUNDME PAGE
