CHICAGO – A 26-year-old Chicago woman has been charged with defacing a police memorial for tearing down a memorial photograph at the James R. Thompson Center. The Illinois State Police say that in August Anna N. Kochakian allegedly tore down, crumpled and discarded a photograph of Chicago Police Officer Ella French. On Wednesday authorities took Kochakian into custody after a lengthy investigation. She was handcuffed with cuffs belonging to Officer French’s partner, Officer Carlos Yanez, who was shot during the same incident where Officer French lost her life. Kochakian is being held pending a bond hearing on a charge of Criminal Damage to Property – Defacement of a Police Memorial, a class 4 felony.
