OGLESBY – Most residents in Oglesby that filed out a survey involving the proposed Senica Square project were against moving forward with plans. At Monday night’s city council meeting Comissioner James Curran went over the results of the nearly 360 surveys he received back from households, 48% of those wanting to abandoned the project. Plans for Senica Square included a stage, a permanent ice rink and a splash feature with picnic tables.
Mayor Dominic Rivara says if the city uses the Illinois Department of Natural Resources’s $400,000 grant they would have to spend just over $550,000. If they don’t use it, the city would be suspended from applying for other grants for two years. Rivara hopes to have a decision made by the next city council meeting.
