Susan was born in Streator on June 13, 1940 to George and Susan (Capko) Yacko.  She married John Barton on June 7, 1958 at St. Stephen’s Church in Streator.

Susan graduated from Streator Township High School with the class of 1958.  She met the love of her life, John, in English class there.  Together they built a life and raised seven children.  Her first job was at Hills Brothers, where she served sodas to patrons.  Through the years Susan worked as a dedicated waitress at Ken’s Place in Streator, knowing just about every customer who walked through the door.  She was a waitress at the Bowl-Mor Lamplighter Room enjoying her time there.  When Streator Drugs first opened their liquor department, Sue served as the first manager at that time.  Susan then enjoyed a position at Frank’s Jewelers, now Van Duzer Jewelers, in Streator, taking pride in helping young couples choose engagement and wedding rings, students choosing class rings and other patrons looking for that perfect gift.  Susan looked forward to yearly fishing trips to Canada and Wisconsin with John.  She took an active part in the lives of her children and grandchildren by attending their school plays and sporting events and being an active member of the St. Stephen’s Parent’s Club.  She was known for never missing the birthday of a child or grandchild and for her delicious potato salad, enjoyed yearly at the Yacko family reunion.  She enjoyed jigsaw and crossword puzzles, attending bingo, watching game shows and soap operas and was an avid card player.  Susan was a member of the Streator Women’s Bowling Association, in which she served in various leadership positions and had the opportunity to bowl at State many times.  She was elected to the Streator Women’s USBC Hall of Fame.  She was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Parish and formerly a member of St. Stephen’s Parish.  Susan was, first and foremost, a wife and mother, whom she dedicated herself to fully.  She was a woman of strong faith.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, John of Streator; seven children, Janice (Kevin) Corrigan, Jill (Larry) Hayward, John Michael (Connie) Barton, Jamie Welch (John Wyatt), Jodi (Daren) Ingold, and Joseph (Kristin Donnelly) Barton all of Streator; and Jennifer (Jon) Barton of Joliet; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren; a sister in law, Patzy Ray of Portland, Oregon as well as many nieces and nephews.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents and seven siblings.

The family suggests memorials be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, St. Michael Parish Building Fund or a charity of the donor’s choice.
