
Donald D. Danko, Sr., 91, of Streator passed away Wednesday, March 18, 2026 at LaSalle County Nursing Home in Ottawa.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 A.M. Monday, March 30th at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Streator.
Visitation will be from 9-11 A.M. Monday, March 30th at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator.
Burial will be in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Streator. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Derek Danko, Brandon Walker, Kurt Walker, Ryan Starkey; and great grandsons, Ethan West and Noah Decker. Full military rites will be accorded by members of the Leslie G. Woods American Legion Post 217, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1492 and the Long Point American Legion Post 1217.
Born November 28, 1934 in Streator he was the son of Andrew Sr. and Margaret (Vojtko) Danko. He married Beverly Treschak on February 16, 1957 at St. Stephen’s Church in Streator. She preceded him in death on November 3, 2021.
He is survived by daughters, Elizabeth (Randall) Starkey of Streator and Margaret (Thomas) Walker of Streator; a son, Donald (Donna) Danko, Jr. of Sandwich; 13 grandchildren; 41 great grandchildren; brothers, Andrew (Bea) Danko of Streator and Richard (Barbara) Danko of Streator; nephews and nieces also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and a brother and sister-in-law, Lawrence and Evelyn Danko.
Born and raised in Streator he attended St. Stephen’s Grade School and Streator High School in the class of 1952.
He served in the United States Navy during the Korean conflict. While in the service he spent time in the Mediterranean and the Caribbean.
He worked through the years for Streator Brickyard, Anthony Company, Lipton Tea Company, owned and operated Danko Standard Service Station, St. Mary’s Hospital and in the floorcovering business with Mel Treschak. He later worked at Streator High School in maintenance for 16 years until his retirement.
He was a member of the former St. Stephen’s Church and currently belonged to St. Michael the Archangel Church. He was also a member of the Msgr. George A. Dzuryo Knights of Columbus Council # 790, Streator Moose Club, Streator Eagles Club and the Vermillion Boat Club for over 40 years.
