SPRINGFIELD — The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency announced $21,046,025 in grants to six communities across the state through Illinois EPA’s Unsewered Communities Construction Grant Program, including a large contribution for a subdivision in Streator. Made possible through the Rebuild Illinois plan, these grants will allow underserved communities to construct dependable wastewater collection and/or treatment systems. Streator will receive $954,525 to extend sewer service to the Liz Mar East Addition subdivision. The project will extend sanitary sewer from an existing sanitary sewer main located on Main Street to the 16 homes in the subdivision. Connection of the service lines for each homeowner will also be covered by this grant.
“No community should be forced to function without a high quality water infrastructure system,” said Governor JB Pritzker.
