BLOOMINGTON – The Illinois Farm Bureau President responded to the trade agreement with the U.S. and Japan. On Wednesday. the United States and Japan signed a limited trade deal that will open Japanese markets to American farm goods. The deal will reduce Japanese barriers to American beef, pork, wheat, cheese, almonds, wine and other products, while cutting American tariffs on Japanese turbines, machine tools, bicycles, green tea, flowers and other goods. The two countries have also reached an agreement on digital trade. Illinois Farm Bureau President Richard Guebert, Jr. says the trade deal provides a sigh of relief for American farmers, who’ve been hoping for a win. The agreement, once signed, is estimated to open markets up to $7 billion in U.S. agricultural products.
